Abla's Lebanese Restaurant
Brief
Abla's required a simple, low-budget website to showcase the restaurant, including the menu and Abla Amad's recipe book, The Lebanese Kitchen. They also wanted to include one of these recipes which is frequently requested by cooking shows and food editors / critics.
Implementation
Given that this was a low-budget project and that artwork was already available for the logo and photography, Spiral selected one of their templates and from there, customised it with the artwork provided and harmonious colours. Within two weeks the site was up and running and the restaurant manager was able to give out the address to those who ring every day requesting the menu.

The Brandsmiths
Brief
The Brandsmiths is a brand identity design agency. Craig from The Brandsmiths thought it was time to update the company's website with a sleek, European look. Spiral Designs was brought in to turn the design into a working site with fading project thumbnails as well as other rollover thumbnails, a unique four-column layout and a gallery for project details which would load within the same page for each project.
Implementation
This site provided a few challenges with the project "pixels", photo gallery and restricted four-column layout. However, with some clever CSS, a little Ajax for the photo gallery, some GIF animation, and lots of browser testing, the site exceeded Craig's expectations.

Creating a Scene: Design & Display
Brief
Creating a Scene had a large number of fantastic photographs of their events and designs which they wanted to feature prominantly on their site. They had a definite idea of the look and feel they required - funky, colourful and bold - and they provided much of the design.
Implementation
Given the nature of the business, it was important that Creating a Scene's photo gallery could grow quickly and easily. They also required the ability to update the portfolio easily so we used Ajax to build a photo gallery which can be edited with minimal training.

DrinkMaven.com
Brief
The idea for this site - an online collection of cocktail and other drink recipes - was dreamt up by Khamsouk Souvanlasy of CultureByte. Though not a new idea, we knew that we could create a site with an edge over other similar concepts using a Web2.0 flavour and powerful search facilities.
The site is currently in Beta mode.
Implementation
As a joint cooperation, we took our time designing the site look and feel, performing usability testing early on. With a smart logo designed by Craig from The Brandsmiths, we gave the site a fun but simple feel. Built using Ruby on Rails with lots of little Ajax features the site is fresh, cheerful and easy to use. Keep an eye out as we add new features and the collection of recipes grows.

Instinctive Design & Construction
Brief
The design for this website, for landscaping company Instinctive Design & Construction, was created by Gabriel Steinbach of Steinbach Oliver. It looked fantastic in Photoshop and needed to look just as fantastic in a browser - photo gallery and all. Spiral Designs was brought in to construct the pages and code the gallery.
Implementation
This design looks harder to code than it is, thanks to web standards. The images, large as they are, were optimised to minimise download time. The end result is almost identical to the designs.

Larderfresh Specialty Foods
Brief
Larderfresh requested a home page that would describe their products and, given that they don't have a storefront, include the details of their distributors and markets which they attend. Larderfresh already had an established logo and colours which were to be the base for the look and feel.
Implementation
The site was a custom design, with the aim of keeping the look and feel modern and fresh. Given the amount of data, the navigation hierarchy was built two-levels deep with a popout menu to display the second-level options.
This site was awarded a gold medal by the Australian Webdesigners Network.

Lawyers for Animals
Brief
Lawyers for Animals is a not-for-profit organisation that seeks law reform to eliminate animal suffering. Their existing website, containing campaign news and membership details, was difficult to maintain and lacked clarity.
Implementation
Spiral Designs produced a fresh new design which maintained the vibrancy of the old site but was easier to read and navigate. Together with our development partners, Culture Byte, we migrated the old content to WordPress and installed a theme with the new design. Lawyers for Animals now have a clear, easy to read site and a much easier to use administration interface.

Ueckerman.net
Brief
Matthew wanted a blog that suits his personality. He requested something with a Western theme without being too tacky. The blog was already set up in MovableType and so the templates needed to be updated.
Implementation
A new design was created with the Western theme in mind, which would still allow the blog entries to be clearly readable. The use of fonts and embellishments kept the theme consistent without being over the top. Once Matthew was happy with the design, the templates in MovableType were updated to ensure that all entry and archive pages reflected the new look and feel.

Melalouise.net
Brief
Having installed Wordpress for a number of clients, it was time for Pamela to move her personal blog to use it as well and create a look that reflected her personality.
Implementation
Wordpress provides an import feature for a number of other blog systems, including MovableType. Once all of the content was imported, a new theme was required. With minimal changes to the template, the theme was added and new pages were created for static text.

Present Company Included E-News
Brief
Present Company Included have an established client database. Each month they distribute a company newsletter. This was done using Microsoft Publisher but they were not happy with the look and feel nor the uncertainty that the code produced would look differently in different mail applications. Spiral Designs was brought in to create a template that would be both reliable and aesthetically pleasing.
Implementation
Using Present Company's established brand logo and colours, Spiral Designs created a design with a fresh, new look that can accommodate different layouts such as product lists, specials, etc. The new newsletter is designed and coded in such a way as it should always reach a recipient's mail program intact, rather than being blocked by a Spam filter or broken by an email application.

PerfectPetzzz.com.au
Brief
The brief for this site was to create an Australian version of US-based online store for PerfectPetzzz. The design and template code was provided and Spiral Designs was contracted to develop the shopping cart.
Implementation
The shopping cart software used is CubeCart, one of few such packages which promotes and encourages web standards-based code. Once the software was set up, the pages created and payment integrated with PayPal, all that was left to do was load in the collection of cute puppies and kittens and the site was launched!

Pyranha Cleaning Services
Brief
This clean, professional site was designed by The Brandsmiths. The client required lots of mouseover images and a clean site which stretched to fit the browser window.
Implementation
Some small pieces of javascript helped with the mouseovers and some clever CSS enabled the site to stretch to the size of the browser window. Within a matter of days the site was coded, tested, up and running and the client was very pleased with his professional, "clean" site (pun intended).

Aboriginal Gallery of Dreamings
Brief
The Aboriginal Gallery of Dreamings is one of the most respected aboriginal art galleries in the country. They approached Spiral Designs with a need to bring their collection online for art buyers around the world and the ability to quickly and easily add and edit new items on a regular basis. Anem Design designed the new look logo and site and then it was over to Spiral Designs to bring the design to life.
Implementation
The Open Source software Gallery2 was ideal for an online art gallery. Spiral developed a new template that matched the design and installed it at the gallery's existing website hosting. The gallery are now happily adding new artwork as they please in their simple yet professional-looking site.
